April 21, 2011

It seems that spring has finally sprung here in Brooklyn, and along with its arrival we’ve got some great new items and exclusive deals that we don’t want you to miss out on.

Right on the coattails of LCD Soundsystem’s final show (of which we are still reveling in the epicness of the show while simultaneously sincerely sad to see them go), we released the latest Musician as Designer shirt (Edition 13) by the lovely Nancy Whang. Nancy not only plays in LCD Soundsystem, but also the long time SSD faves Juan MacLean. There are only 60 in this series, featuring her original watercolor illustration digitally (yes, digitally) printed on organic Alternative Apparel garments. Get them now or forever regret missing out.

We’ve also got some great sales going on in our shop. Musician as Designer shirts by Sadie Laska and Lucky Dragons have been added to the sale this week, at 30% off. Our 2010 Collection oversized totes are still only $10/each, and all 12 installments in Volume One of the Artist Music Journals series are only $8 each. We would be bad friends if we didn’t warn you that the low stock that remains for the Daniel Higgs, Brian Roettinger (+ No Age), and EYE installments.

After an awesome pop up shop at Giant Robot LA in March we were able to get back some previously sold out items, including VIF ED 04 Crew T in Medium, the Beach House Hoodie in Medium from our 2010 Collection, and the Health Crew T in both Small and Medium. Make sure to check out our store to see what’s popped up!

For all of you in NYC, this Friday (April 22nd), Pantha du Prince is performing at Good Units / Hudson Hotel. We will have all of his 2010 Collection designs on sale, designed by the infamous Hisham Bharoocha, so be sure to stop by and say hi. Doors are at 10 pm.

Also for those in NYC, the talented Musician as Designer alum Tim Cohen will be performing with his band The Fresh and Onlys on Saturday (April 23rd) at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Tickets are still available, and we hope to see you there.

Last but not least, be sure to sign up for the brand new RCRD Deals. Soundscreen Design will have an exclusive discounted package available next week. Head over to RCRD Deals for more info.

Record Messenger Bag

bag_frontview_4801

We’re super psyched to introduce our Record Messenger Bag. Practical and spacious, the bag not only stands up to the demands of the most intense rider, but also safely protects up to 10 LPs in a fortified interior. No more ruining the corners and jackets of your records when attempting to bike home from your local shop. But why stop there? To boot, each bag has a unique recycled vinyl lining sourced from highway billboard advertisements and reflective outer printing to keep you safe at night.

Artist Music Journal 12: Yamantaka Eye (of Boredoms)

amj12_productimage_480

Yamantaka Eye’s Artist Music Journal is available now and is not to be missed. Eye’s is the twelfth and final edition of Volume 1, and we could not think of a more fitting artist to close out the series. Eye used his journal as an opportunity to design for dozens of imaginary bands, including original album art and vinyl details. One of our very favorite releases in the series, AMJ 12 is available now, and as always, limited to 1000 copies.

Lots going on here at Soundscreen Design, including a new Vinyl is Forever edition, the complete 2010 Collection of designer band apparel, a limited edition Touchable Sound bundle, Artist Music Journal back issue discounts, and, of course, a few exciting projects in the works.

Vinyl is Forever

vif_ed05_hoodie_480 Our fifth (and final!) edition in the Vinyl is Forever series is out now, designed by the always incredibly Post Family. The Post Family began with seven guys living in Chicago who liked to make art, however over the past two years the collective has grown into a blog, gallery, performance space, working design studio, and resources for the Chicago community they intend to serve. The design for this edition is featured on crew neck t’s (natural and black), a heather black ¾ sleeve henley, and a grey pullover hoodie. As always, the design is limited edition and printed on soft and comfy organic garments. Order yours here!

Touchable Sound

cover_outer_highres_480_blog We are thrilled and very thankful for the incredible turn out at our past events for our new book, Touchable Sound: A Collection of 7-inch Records from the USA. Events celebrating its release (thus far) included a special presentation at Family (LA), a DJ night featuring exclusively records from the book at Heathers (NYC), a special Man or Astroman? 7”/book bundle for their first Athens’ show in 11 years, at 40 Watt Club, and a panel and presentation at Criminal Records (Atlanta). Thank you for everyone that came out for these events!

As we mentioned, we made a special bundle for the Georgia events. Along with the book’s introduction writer and Mr. Man About Town Henry Owings (Chunklet), we teamed up with Man or Astroman? for a limited edition (300 copies) one-of-a-kind 7”, specially packaged for sale with Touchable Sound. The record comes in a static shield bag, complete with a (very real) circuit board, and features two unreleased songs ‘Earth Station Radio’ and ‘Updated Theme to Supercar.’ We only have a few left, and if you were not able to make the show you may purchase one of these special bundles by paypaling $39 to mike@soundscreendesign.com, while supplies last of course.

If you haven’t been to an event yet (or want to come to another one!) please make sure to check out our upcoming installation of 60 records featured in Touchable Sound at the John Varvatos store in NYC (in the old CBGB’s). The 3-month installation starts November 23rd.

Artist Music Journals
Both the 10th and 11th editions in our first volume of Artist Music Journals are still available and shipping now. The 10th edition, with Brian Roettinger, comes with an exclusive 10” record featuring a collaboration between No Age and Brian with three exclusive tracks. Brian also did the album artwork of No Age’s new album, Everything In Between, released in September.

amj_10_jacketbookrecord_480

The 11th edition, brought to us by Dan Nadel (Picturebox), features Josh White and the legendary Joshua Light Show. There’s currently an exhibition at London’s Welcome Collection, featuring a recreation of the visually mind-blowing Joshua Light Show.
