We’ll be honest, not much Country or Western music is played here at SSD HQ, mainly due to a lack of understanding and exposure.  We simply don’t know the history, the iconic artists, the influential labels, or the coveted producers the way we do for genre’s like punk, indie, classic rock, or soul.

Thankfully, Paul McNeil and Barry Divola, the genius team behind music-obsessed kids alphabet books Nevermind Your P’s and Q’s: Here’s the Punk Alphabet, and M is for Metal!, have returned with ABC&W: The Country and Western Alphabet, available in our shop for pre-order now.

Knowing that the irreverent sense of humor, hysterical illustrations, and heartwarming rhymes would be worth the price of admission, ABC&W presents a unique opportunity for many of us unfamiliar with the history of Country & Western: Teach kids the alphabet while learning about one of America’s most original contributions to the popular music.

Appealing to kids’ sense of the absurd, while tickling the funny bones of adults with in-jokes about boot-scooting, hillbillies, cowboys, Nashville and truckers, this is the latest hilarious installment in the Rockin’ Alphabets series, where parents and children can look at the same page together and laugh, but not necessarily at the same thing.

We are excited to announce that Soundscreen Design will be exclusively distributing a pair of children’s alphabet books, available for the first time outside of Australia. Perfect for any child and their music loving parents, and filled with amazingly illustrated, yet educational, alphabet rhymes, both books are for parents as much as child.

NEVER MIND YOUR P’S AND Q’S: HERE’S THE PUNK ALPHABET
“M is for mohawk, a silly hairdo / It has lots of points, but it has no point, too”

Imagine for a moment that the lead singer of the Sex Pistols was Dr. Seuss! You’ve just entered the world of Never Mind Your P’s and Q’s: Here’s the Punk Alphabet. From Blondie and The Ramones to anarchy and pogoing, via
Johnny’s rotten teeth, Iggy’s boredom and Sid’s silliness, Never Mind Your P’s and Q’s: Here’s the Punk Alphabet is the definitive alphabet book for youngsters, and parents, with counter- cultural tendencies.

M IS FOR METAL!
“A is for Angus whose riffs are a hit / He’s a grown man in a schoolboy outfit”

M Is for Metal, an irreverent kids’ book that’s not just for kids. Imagine Dr. Seuss crossed with Spinal Tap and The Simpsons and you’re in the ballpark. Appealing to children’s sense of the absurd, plus tickling grown-ups’ funny
bones with in-jokes about rock stars and their foibles. From Acca Dacca to Led Zep, via Gene’s tongue, The Stones’ refusal to die and Ozzy’s problems with dog poop, M Is for Metal! is the funniest, silliest and definitely the loudest A-Z you’ll read this year.
