Brian Roettinger / Hand Held Heart

Brian Roettinger works primarily as a graphic designer. He received a BFA in graphic design from CalArts in 2004. His work has been exhibited in Los Angeles at Hope (2008) and Gallery 1520 (2008) and was included in Mark-Municipal Art Acquisitions 2003: Graphic Design, Stedelijk Museum, (2004). Roettinger acted as the design director of the Southern California Institute of Architecture from 2004 until 2010. He has also designed numerous catalogues including: Hammer Projects: 1999-2009, Jason Rhoades' Black Pussy Cocktail Coffee Table Book, and Touchable Sound: A collection of 7-inch records from the USA. His work encompasses design, publishing, writing and curating as well as running his own vinyl-only record label Hand Held Heart. In 2009 he was nominated for a Grammy for his design of the No Age Nouns album packaging. He is a current designer in residency in the Design | Media Arts program at UCLA.
